Why Choose Wool?

Using wool in your cloth diapering routine is a popular choice chosen by many for so many different reasons!

Some desire to use wool as a way to compliment their "all-natural fiber" cloth diapering journey. They want to lessen the synthetic fibers used in their life and it's a really great option for this!

Some want an elastic-free option. Wool can be a wonderful choice when choosing to eliminate elastics from your baby's clothing and diapers.

Some want a breathable option. Wool is definitely a great fabric when looking for properties like breathability and more eco-friendly options.

The benefits of wool are many! Among them are:

  • Naturally Temperature-Regulating: Unlike plastic-based covers (PUL), wool allows heat and moisture to escape, keeping the baby cool in summer and warm in winter. This high breathability makes them excellent for preventing rashes, and a desirable fabric choice for avid back-packers and outdoorsy-people.
  • Superior Absorption: Wool fibers can absorb up to 30% of their weight in moisture without feeling wet. They work by pulling moisture away from the diaper, keeping the baby's skin dry. This makes them ideal for night time, they are considered nearly "bulletproof" for long stretches of sleep (12+ hours).
  • Low Maintenance/ Cost-Efficient: Due to the natural lanolin in the fibers, which neutralizes urine and makes the fabric naturally anti-microbial, these covers do not need to be washed after every use. They only require washing when they become soiled with feces or start to smell, which might only be every 3 to 4 weeks with careful use and care.
  • Natural & Sustainable: Wool is a biodegradable, natural fiber. Lanolin is a natural-derived water-resistant material as well. The lanolization process is what gives wool its water-resistant properties.
  • Comfort & Fit: They are soft, stretchy, and do not leave red marks on the skin, great for an elastic-free option.

No matter the reason you choose to use wool, it is a great option for most people and a valuable addition to anyone's cloth diapering journey.
