Wool care can vary depending on brand and type of wool fabric being used. Most often is is seen as a delicate fabric and is often associated with a dry-clean only or hand-wash only option.
We here at Redwood have partnered with Bumby Wool to offer a more simple and easy-to-use wool diapering system! The wool used by Bumby Wool is machine washable! This makes your life and diapering routine so much easier and simple.
All Bumby Wool garments, including diaper covers, are designed for machine washing because they are either superwash wool or blended with Lycra, and all fabric is preshrunk before cutting and sewing. Our mid and heavyweight wool undergoes a preshrinking process during dyeing, called felting, where we lose about 50% of the yardage to create a thick, absorbent fabric that helps prevent leaks. Unlike other wool brands, which may shrink or felt, Bumby Wool is specifically treated to maintain its size and durability in the wash. The Lycra helps maintain stretch and prevents further shrinkage at home.
Washing in cool water with a gentle, enzyme-free detergent like Unicorn Clean (Another partner, sold here on our website) is safe for Bumby Wool covers. In fact, the washing machine effectively removes grime, detergent, and excess water, helping keep wool in its best condition!
🔄 Superwash for Accessibility – Not everyone has time for handwashing. Superwash treatment allows for easy care and machine washability, making wool more accessible to busy families. It also provides a lighter fabric option, perfect for warmer weather conditions and layering without bulk.
🌿 Environmental Responsibility – We only use Charguers, the world leader in superwash treatment, which is continuously improving its eco-friendly approach to wool processing. While other techniques are being tested, they can sometimes result in a lower-quality fabric, which is why we trust Charguers for the best balance of sustainability and durability.
❄️ Preshrunk for Stability – All Bumby Wool is preshrunk before cutting and sewing, so it maintains its size and integrity even after multiple washes.
⚠️ Not All Wool is the Same – Many other wool brands will shrink or felt in the wash, so while these washing instructions are great for Bumby Wool, they may not apply to all wool products.
